The City of Växjö provides a wide variety of services to its
residents from within several municipal departments, and
it was difficult for the IT department to sustain an
infrastructure that met all the demands. Not only would it
be expensive and time-consuming to maintain all the
systems, it would also be an inefficient way of working as
communication between departments would be limited.
The City of Växjö chose to upgrade from Office Communications
Server to Microsoft Lync, and with headsets from
Jabra, they wanted to improve the user experience. As a
Unified Communications solution, Lync was flexible and
compatible with the current solution, which resulted in a
cost-effective installation. Using Lync, Växjö is able to reach
their goal of achieving a totally scalable communications
platform for all its employees. According to calculations
made by the City, the installation will result in major cost
savings, higher efficiency gains and lower environmental
When it comes to making changes to the IT environment,
you have to consider more than the traditional server
and client infrastructure. A successful transition to Unified Communications also depends on the quality of the
products your employees use, such as certified headsets for the appropriate platform.
“It takes time to adjust to a new system during these
transitions. After all, there are over 3,000 telephone users
who are affected. At first, we did not focus a lot on the
choice of headset. We thought that they are all pretty much
of the same quality no matter what the price level.
However, we quickly discovered that there are actually
significant differences between the products, says Jörgen
Skantz, senior IT-strategist, The City of Växjö.
