Using a mobile phone while driving has been illegal since December 2003, but it’s still legal to make calls from behind the wheel if you have the right equipment.

You’re allowed to use a phone if it’s fully hands-free, as long as it isn’t distracting you. This means you can’t be handling the phone or pressing buttons to operate it while driving. The phone has to be fully set up before you set off.
